HYDRAULIC ROCK SPLITTING

Hydraulic Rock Splitting | Orana Drilling

One safe and effective way to break down large rocks into more manageable pieces is by hydraulic rock splitting. It's a popular method with both large and small civil works, mining and quarrying companies alike. You'll save time, money and your crew will stay safe throughout the process.

How Does a Hydraulic Rock Splitter Work?

A rock splitter is a rock breaking tool that comes connected to a pair of low and high-pressure hydraulic hoses. The cylinder on the rock splitter has a control valve and a piston that moves a plug. This plug gets positioned between two feathers. The feather and plug end goes into the drilled hole.

Once you switch it on, the plug moves down between the two feathers. This forces the feathers against the hole's wall. The tension will start to increase as the concrete splitter applies more force to the walls. Eventually, a split will appear in the rock.

The cylinder's entire operation comes controlled by a lever that is on the top of the rock splitter. Your operator is able to quickly and easily retract and advance the plug by adjusting this lever. This rock breaking tool also comes with an automatic built-in valve that will dial the pressure back after the rock splits into pieces.

What Type of Projects Can Use Hydraulic Rock Splitting?

Rock splitting tools work well for a variety of projects. One of the most popular uses of a concrete splitter is in controlled demolitions. Since it controls the splitting, it eliminates vibrations, shock waves, noise and dust from around the demolition zone.

It's also a popular tool in mining and quarry work, or in populated areas. The precision control makes it desirable for projects that are close to urban areas as there isn't a lot of noise or emissions to worry about when you work.
